O'Malley Lake Weekend

Last October I posted about a couple who had to get married in the hospital due to a wakeboarding injury.  This past weekend, we went back out to the lake to boat and swim and get some shots of Megan and Ryan in their wedding attire.

Kathryn! (www.kathrynkrueger.com)

It's so much fun to shoot another photographer. Especially one you've been friends with since Kokernot/South Russell days. They know what they want and they understand when you can't figure out the focus on your new camera. Love you, Kathryn.

In sickness and in health . . .

How many couples have to prove that vow on the wedding day?  Instead of walking down the aisle to her groom, Megan walked out of her parents' lake house to tell her guests that the ceremony would be held at the hospital.  Guests waited patiently while the family and wedding party drove to the hospital to see the groom, who had dislocated his hip that morning wakeboarding.  During the wedding and since, people have asked me if this was the strangest wedding I have shot.  Without a doubt, yes.  But it was also amazing.  I don't normally write much on my photo blog but this time I was compelled.  The grace with which this day was handled by everyone involved was impressive. More than once I heard someone say that though Megan and Ryan are the last people who something like this should happen to, they are among the few who could handle it well.  And they did.  I was honored to be there and I have enjoyed looking at (maybe while shedding a tear or two) the photos afterwards.  So what happened?  The ceremony was held at the hospital.  Megan came back to the reception--a big white tent on the lake.  And everyone ate, danced, laughed, cried, danced and was thankful Ryan's okay.

Gutshalls: Looking Back

Meredith Gutshall is one of my favorite people in Kansas City.  My trips home usually include coffee with Meredith and/or baseball in the backyard with Deacon (who can list the Royals' players and positions).  Sometimes Thomas the Train is squeezed in there.  Two summers in a row, I shot photos of Meredith and Deacon.  This past summer it didn't work out.  Maybe this Fall?  In honor of the newest member of the Gutshall family, Grisham, I'm posting photos from the two previous summers.  http://meredithgutshall.blogspot.com/
